The Historic 1910 Ross Farm Barn is gone

I suppose I should say something. Itโ€™s on the news now so everyone will know. My personal version of hell keeps expanding.

Last night around 11pm I got a call that the iconic big barn at the farm was โ€œfully engulfedโ€ and a total loss. All of our heritage and rare breed sheep were in the barn. They were due to lamb in 12 days. They did not survive.

The skid loaderโ€™s tracks were frozen. It wouldnโ€™t move so it caught fire too.

Wonderful Oliver saved the big tractor *we think* with just melted plastic and broken glass. The volunteer firemen kept it contained and saved the rest of the structures and equipment.

Melinda lost her whole flock AND all her shearing equipment.

We lost tools, equipment and basically my history and my future.

There will be no lambs to cuddle or fleeces to prepare this year. Theyโ€™re all with Drew now. Everything he loved is with him now.

Your generous donation will help us get back on our feet after our iconic big barn burned to the ground.

  1. My heart breaks for you and your family.
As many others are, I am just sick and heartbroken to hear of your loss.

  2. You should know the historian John U. Rees is letting the living history community know what happened to the barn. I hope my contribution helps.

  3. Danielle at Fibrespace shared this heartbreaking newsโ€”I am so, so shocked and sorry, words canโ€™t cover it.

  4. Amy and Melinda,
Words canโ€™t express my sorrow for your loss. Please know that my love and thoughts are with you. If anyone can come back from this, it will be you. You two are the strongest women I know. I will be in touch.

Words canโ€™t express this kind of loss. Many years ago our neighbors barn burned with all their animals inside and I still tear up when I think about it. I will share the news far and wide and donate what I can.

  7. I am so very sorry for the ongoing pain throughout the last years. I went through years and issues that left me reeling, and I sympathize so much with your sorrow. I will donate now and plan to again soon. I love heritage sheep and pray that you will be able to find some for your next steps.

  8. My heart is broken for you both! I took your Longwool class at Lambtown this past October. I remember your tears shared in that class, but I also remember your incredible joy and laughter. I hope this community can help you both find a bit of joy again! Sending much love from California!
