Foundation work begins on the old new barn

Yesterday was filled with ALL the emotions. The bulldozer arrived to start the site prep for the barn move. You expect to be excited. New barn! Moving forward! Historic barn saved! This is great! Then you remember your great-grandpa you never met built the old one with his own hands. Your grandfather you never met forged the nails in the blacksmith shop on the property. Your Uncle Tom spent his life in that barn. You, your parents, your husband and your son made so many memories in that barn. This is the last of it. Itโ€™s being completely erased. Itโ€™s going to be well and truly gone in a matter of days. The loss of the barn will be final. Then you think of the beautiful lattice work in the eaves of the New Old Barn, the medallions to be recreated, the โ€œmodernโ€ updates youโ€™ll be able to add to the barn once itโ€™s moved. The old feedbox is gone. The swirl of emotions is too much. Excitement, happiness, sadness, frustration, fear, anxiety, loss, determination, grief, hopefulnessโ€ฆ all of this is overwhelming, but in a positive way Iโ€™m so grateful to be able to attempt. Onward and upward!
