On the loom -Planning my first weaving project of 2025. Stair runner??
On the wheel – Wet finished the Gotland for my new friend Angela. Discovered the tension knob is missing from my Hansen cherry Classic – great customer service though! A new one is on the way. Spinning currently on the EEW 6.0 and super excited about the Kickstarter for the new EEW Fold.
On the needles – Still working on the test knit cast of a new design by Thea Colman of Baby Cocktails in my Ross Farm Ashen Wensleydale that will launch in March. Trying to finish a microfiber ribbon scarf from Tessโs Designer Yarns that I started a zillion years ago. Planning a few new samples for the booth this Spring too.
Technique Time – Iโve been binding several quilts and my plan this week is to make a few shorts/reels on my binding technique. Perfect mitered corners every time!
Sheep & Wool School – This monthโs breed is Cheviot. Today, weโre talking about working with it. Itโs one of my favorite types of wool because of its resistance to felting and hard-wearing nature. I literally canโt say enough about it! You can experience the wool for yourself with one of our Cheviot products, or from a local purveyor near you! Check out Ross Farm Funky, Ross Farm Big Boy, our Cheviot roving, our quilt batts or even our socks! Iโve been blocking the Lollygag Cowl and working on increasing the size of Drewโs hose.
Finish it or Frog It – Busy with other things but still spending a few minutes with a little knitting on the Carbeth. Iโm on Sleeve Islandโฆ.
Sewing Stuff – I got the log cabin tree skirt from approximately 1998 for my 2025 UFO Challenge with the Polka Dot Pincushion bound and photographed under the tree. The studio reorganization project is finished except for inventorying the last of the kits, all of the fabric and processing scraps.I finally got the rug down that I bought a year and a half ago when we bought the house. Itโs perfection!! My featherweight even got its own handmade, quilted dust cover. I finished the pattern inventory and got them all arranged in page protectors inside binders for easy access! The de-clutter challenge I mentioned from Karen Brown of Just Get It Done Quilts is here on her YouTube Channel and has made a huge difference for me. Even if I donโt do it EXACTLY the way Karen does, itโs valuable to me because it gives me a structure to follow..
In Season – COMFORT FOOD -So much snow! This week Iโve made my killer meatloaf, mashed potatoes, homemade garlic & herb buns, sourdough pancakes and a big pot of chicken noodle soup.
On Down the Road – Today is Rustbelt Fibershed Symposium in Cleveland. Nash Yarn Fest is coming up fast in March. Maryland Sheep & Wool and Great Lakes Fiber Festival will round out the show season in May.
